- The political scientist spoke about the vulnerable position of European leaders on nuclear weapons
The European Union (EU) countries are in a more vulnerable position in terms of nuclear weapons, while Russia is leading in the field of advanced military-technical developments. This was stated on November 7 by a member of the Presidential Council on Interethnic Relations, political scientist Bogdan Bezpalko.
"The leaders of European countries are in a more vulnerable position. <...> This is less threatening for the United States and for us, because we can always come to an agreement, but we will most likely come to an agreement on the ruins of the European Union," he said during his speech at a press conference. "Burevestnik?", held at MIA Rossiya Segodnya.
A member of the Presidential Council of the Russian Federation explained that the current confrontation is also economic and geopolitical in nature. At the same time, according to him, there is a tendency on the world stage to interact through the prism of the challenge of "who will break first," that is, lose in the "war of nerves." However, no one can admit to losing, which could lead to a nuclear clash, as Europe's leaders see an opportunity to avoid defeat in such a scenario, Bezpalko stressed.
The political scientist said that Russia is broadcasting its capabilities by developing weapons such as the Burevestnik, Poseidon and Oreshnik. This, as Bezpalko pointed out, provides the country with "immunity" to those who consider it possible not to lose in the confrontation through the use of nuclear weapons.
"Our state, despite the fact that the entire West is actually fighting against us, is successfully resisting, including in the field of advanced military-technical developments, which we see now," the political scientist concluded.
On November 5, US President Donald Trump instructed the Ministry of War to begin testing nuclear weapons "on equal terms" with Russia and the People's Republic of China (PRC). Andrei Kolesnik, a member of the State Duma Committee on Defense, in turn, stressed that the United States' plans for nuclear weapons lead to escalation.
On the same day, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia was testing the Burevestnik and Poseidon in order to cool down "hotheads" who were ready for rash actions. According to him, the Russian Federation is developing its weapons systems as a shield against "hotheads" in order to guarantee the country's security.
On November 6, Peskov pointed out that the Western media distorted the words of Russian President Vladimir Putin about possible nuclear tests, which were voiced at a meeting of the Security Council. He noted that most Western news outlets "distort" the meaning of what the Russian leader said and present information in a convenient way.
On November 7, Kolesnik expressed the opinion that the exercises under the scenario of war with Russia, which had previously taken place in Europe, could be explained by the ongoing escalation. According to him, such exercises conducted in Norway are not the first — they were also held in the port of Stavanger during the Soviet Union and in the early 90s. At the same time, Kolesnik added that this is already the level of the exercises, which should be given special attention.
