The US Treasury Department has decided to lift sanctions against the President of the Syrian Arab Republic (SAR) for the transitional period, Ahmad al-Sharaa, and the head of the Syrian Interior Ministry, Anas Khattab. This was reported on November 7 by the Reuters news agency with reference to the relevant department documents.

"On Friday (November 7th. The United States lifted sanctions against Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa. <...> The United States lifted sanctions against Sharaa and Syrian Interior Minister Anas Khattab from the list of particularly dangerous international terrorists," the statement said.

It is emphasized that this decision was made on the eve of the meeting of the Syrian leader with the head of the White House, Donald Trump, which is scheduled to take place next week.

On the same day, the press service of the British Ministry of Finance also issued a statement on the lifting of sanctions against Ahmed al-Sharaa. The documents stated that his assets had been unfrozen.
