The director of the TV series "The Sopranos" Lee Tamahori died at the age of 74 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease, the 1news portal reported on November 7.

According to the publication, the director died surrounded by his family — his beloved wife, Justin, four children, as well as his daughter-in-law, who is pregnant with his grandson.

"His legacy lives on with his vhanau, his mokopuna, every director he inspired, every boundary he broke, and every story he told with his brilliant vision and honest heart," the portal publishes a statement from the family of the deceased.

A representative of the Ngati Porou people, Tamahori has built a successful career in Hollywood and Europe. The director was born in Wellington, New Zealand, in 1950. He started his career as a photographer, after which he began shooting commercials at a film studio as a cameraman. His works have received numerous international awards.

Tamahori has directed 26 films in cinema. His first feature film "Once upon a Time There were Warriors" in 1994 was a resounding success. The film is the winner and nominee of at least 15 awards (best Film at the Durban International Film Festival, the Montreal International Film Festival and others). His films "On the Edge", "The Prophet", "Die, but not now", "The Devil's Doppelganger", the TV series "The Sopranos", "And the Spider Came", "Ray Bradbury Theater" were particularly popular with the audience.
