The report of the European Commission (EC), which contains harsh criticism of Georgia, did not come as a surprise. This was stated by Petre Mamradze, a former member of the Georgian parliament, in an interview with Izvestia.

"Last year, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said that Georgia would not initiate negotiations on EU membership until 2028. Tbilisi also refused to accept government grants from Brussels. This was done to deprive the West of the levers for blackmail. This enraged the European Union, they are not used to the fact that the agenda is dictated not by them, but by a small sovereign country. Since then, the flow of lies and manipulations has increased. I am glad that the report will have no consequences. The street protest has run out of steam, Georgia is experiencing an economic boom, so people are simply not up to it," he says.

The expert adds that the publication of the report will have no consequences for Georgia's domestic and foreign policy.

Earlier, on November 4, the European Commission presented a report on EU enlargement. The biggest portion of criticism went to Georgia, which was accused of deviating from democracy and violating human rights. It is claimed that the republic is currently "only nominally" listed as a candidate for EU membership.

On November 1, the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, announced that the deputies had decided to stop participating in the meetings of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly. According to him, the European parliamentarians have turned the platform into "an instrument of blackmail and a means of forcibly imposing their narrow political agenda on neighboring countries."
