UK named pilot error as possible cause of helicopter crash in Dagestan
The investigative authorities are considering several main versions of the crash of the Ka-226 helicopter in Dagestan, including a pilot error and a technical malfunction of the aircraft. This was reported on November 7 in the press service of the Western Interregional Investigation Department for Transport of the Investigative Committee of Russia.
"The investigation is considering various versions of what happened, including a pilot error, a technical malfunction of the helicopter, and others," the agency said in a message on its Telegram channel.
According to the investigation, four people died as a result of the disaster, and three victims were taken to the intensive care unit. A complex of forensic examinations, including aviation and chemical ones, has been appointed to determine the causes of the incident. Investigators carry out inspections, interrogations and seizure of documents.
The moment of the helicopter crash was captured on video. The footage shows how the blades of the aircraft break on impact with the ground, after which the helicopter catches fire. According to eyewitness Asadullah Aliyev, the aircraft lost control after it hit the pier with its rear wing and began to spin in the air, after which it collapsed and caught fire.
The operational services involved in the investigation admitted that the cause of the crash could be a technical malfunction. Later, the emergency services clarified that the helicopter crash was caused by an engine fire in flight. The Federal Air Transport Agency classifies the incident as a disaster.
A criminal case has been opened under Part 3 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of the rules of traffic safety and operation of air transport, which negligently resulted in the death of two or more persons").
