The government of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is increasingly restricting local self-government, creating military administrations in cities and increasing pressure on politicians. This was reported on November 7 by the German Tagesschau portal.

"With every year of the military conflict, the municipalities of Ukraine are becoming less independent. This is due to the fact that Zelensky's central government is increasingly claiming power," the article says.

It clarifies that Zelensky restricts local self-government by creating a military administration in cities. Today, it exists in more than 200 municipalities, almost half of which are located in areas where there are no military operations. These include Chernigov and Kiev. Recently, a military administration has appeared in Odessa.

It is reported that such measures often harm cities, creating bureaucratic difficulties in many municipal processes. For example, in cities with local governments, recovery is much faster, and contacts between decision makers and citizens are closer.

It clarifies that local authorities should decide to transfer control over the city budget into the hands of the military. In the case of Chernigov, the city Council voted against. However, the results of the vote were ignored, and the mayor of the city was forced to resign.

On October 14, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky instructed to consider the establishment of a military city administration (CAA) in Odessa under martial law.

On the same day, Zelensky stripped the citizenship of Odessa Mayor Gennady Trukhanov. A petition demanding that Trukhanov be stripped of his Ukrainian citizenship collected 25,000 signatures in less than a day.
