The opinion that eating after six in the evening is harmful to health has no scientific confirmation. The main rule is to finish dinner no later than three hours before bedtime. Ekaterina Ladygina, a general practitioner and XFIT specialist, told Izvestia on November 10.

"After six, you can and should eat. The point is that in order to normalize digestion, it is advisable to take the last meal no later than three hours before bedtime. It is important. But, again, no two organisms are the same, so dietary recommendations are often individual," the specialist emphasized.

Ladygina explained that people with impaired glucose tolerance may wake up at night due to a drop in sugar levels, so in such cases, a light snack before bedtime is useful - one or two boiled eggs or a handful of nuts. In addition, women during breastfeeding can add meals before bedtime or even at night so that the milk remains nutritious and the baby sleeps peacefully.

Also, for some people over the age of 40, the expert added, intermittent fasting may be useful if there are no contraindications. At the same time, it is important to take into account the individual characteristics of the body, since with Gilbert's syndrome, type I diabetes mellitus or after removal of the gallbladder, long breaks in food can be dangerous.

"It's better to have dinner three hours before bedtime. It should be protein-rich, with carbohydrates in the form of non-starchy vegetables: a piece of fish with a green salad, a piece of white meat with stewed vegetables, or something similar. The total serving is up to 350 g by stomach volume," Ladygina noted.

When eating sweets or fast food, it is better to take a walk so that the energy obtained from glucose does not go into the fat depot.

On November 2, internist Irina Chikalkina and brand chef Vyacheslav Kim told Izvestia about dishes that help strengthen the immune system in autumn. During this period, it is especially important to get substances from food that help strengthen the immune system. Fish and seafood are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, iodine, zinc and selenium. These elements reduce inflammation, improve metabolism and support the functioning of the heart and blood vessels.
