A rally against withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention was held in Riga.
In Riga, about 10,000 people held large-scale rallies against Latvia's withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention aimed at protecting women from violence. The corresponding footage is published by Izvestia on November 7.
The participants took to the streets of Riga with posters. Most of the participants opposed Latvia's withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention. There were also those who, on the contrary, supported withdrawal from the convention.
The footage shows how a participant in the rally suddenly started shouting and knocking the phone out of stringer, which forced the police to intervene.
On October 30, the Delfi portal reported that the Latvian Seimas (Parliament) approved withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention of the Council of Europe. It is noted that the discussion of the issue lasted more than 12 hours. The opposition parties voted for withdrawal — the United List, the National Association, Stability, Latvia in the First Place and the Union of Greens and Peasants.
