- In Kamchatka, the level of seismicity has increased to an "extremely high" level in a week.
Over the past week, the level of seismicity in Kamchatka has increased from "high" to "extremely high" — during this time, 30 tangible aftershocks were recorded there — this process continues after the powerful earthquake that occurred on June 30. This was announced on November 7 by representatives of the Kamchatka branch of the Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS).
"An earthquake is accompanied by an aftershock sequence that decreases over time. In just a week, 30 tangible aftershocks were recorded...>The seismicity level of the Kamchatka section of the subduction zone is extremely high again," the experts told TASS.
The agency's interlocutors noted that out of the total number of aftershocks, 19 were felt in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, and the strongest tremors, which reached 5 points, provoked a seismic event recorded on the last day of October.
On October 30, representatives of the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences warned about earthquakes of up to 10 magnitude expected in Kamchatka. According to them, they could have occurred in the area where they are located in cities such as Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Yelizovo, Vilyuchinsk.
