Those accused of deforestation in the Pskov region were taken into custody
The Opochetsky District Court of the Pskov region has chosen a preventive measure for two local residents accused of illegally cutting down forests for 10.5 million rubles. This is reported by the joint press service of the courts of the region.
According to the investigation, in the period from March 13 to May 15, the defendants cut down spruce and pine trees in the territory of the Opochetsk forestry with a total volume of more than 260 cubic meters. The damage caused to the forest fund of the Russian Federation exceeded 10.5 million rubles.
"The Opochetsky district court granted petitions for the election of a preventive measure in the form of detention for a period of two months in respect of two local residents," the report says.
According to the Pskov news feed, a criminal case was initiated under Part 3 of Article 260 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Illegal logging of forest plantations." The maximum sanction of this article provides for up to seven years in prison with fines of up to 500 thousand rubles.
In September, it was reported that four people were detained in Transbaikalia for illegally cutting down 464 pines and larches. One of them, the owner of the sawmill, was recognized as the organizer of the criminal scheme. A criminal case has been opened.
