British actress Pauline Collins, known for her role in the comedy melodrama Shirley Valentine (1989), has died at the age of 86. Her death was announced on November 6 by the BBC television and radio company, citing relatives of the actress.
According to the broadcaster, Collins has been struggling with Parkinson's disease in recent years. She passed away in a nursing home in London, with her family by her side.
"Pauline meant so much to so many people, playing so many roles. A bright, lively, witty personality on stage and on screen. Her illustrious career included portrayals of politicians, mothers, and queens," the family said in a statement.
Collins was born in Exmouth, Devon, and has appeared in more than 50 films and television series, including Upstairs and Downstairs (1971-1975), City of Joy (1992), and Paradise Road (1997) and "Quartet" (Quartet, 2012).
