- CAS confirmed receipt of an appeal from the Russian Federation against the FIS decision on the non-admission of athletes
On November 6, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) confirmed receipt of an appeal from the Russian Ski Sports Association against the decision of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) on the non-admission of Russian athletes to participate in competitions.
"The CAS has confirmed the appeal of the Russian Ski Association, 12 Russian athletes and the Russian Paralympic Committee against the FIS," the court said in a statement on its website.
The appeal was filed on November 5 jointly with six professional skiers, including Savely Korostelev, Lana Prusakova, Maria Travinicheva, Artem Galunin, Ekaterina Tkachenko and Daniil Sadreev. It is noted that a hearing will be scheduled by agreement of the parties.
Earlier in the day, Russian Sports Minister and head of the Russian Olympic Committee Mikhail Degtyarev said that Russia had appealed the FIS decision not to allow Russian athletes to participate in the competition.
On October 21, FIS did not allow Russian athletes to participate in international competitions. The Russian Ski Racing Federation (FLGR) noted that this decision is discriminatory and contrary to the principles of political neutrality. Russian athletes have been banned by the FIS from performing on the world stage since March 2022.
