- The Federation Council assessed the plans of the West to prepare sabotage at the nuclear power plant
The West's plans to prepare sabotage at the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) are a reaction to the successful tests of the Russian strategic systems Burevestnik and Poseidon. Viktor Bondarev, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security, told Izvestia on November 6.
"The West is constantly planning provocations and sabotage, this is their essence and vital necessity. The collapse of the USSR, the expansion of the NATO bloc and their advance to the east, the events in Georgia and Ukraine are far from a complete list of their provocations and sabotage. Of course, they won't stop now either," the expert said.
According to Bondarev, the activity and aggression come from NATO, while Russia's defensive measures are perceived as a destabilizing factor. He noted that the Russian state has repeatedly expressed concern about the buildup of forces of the Atlantic military-political bloc in Europe, and said that Moscow does not threaten anyone.
"In reality, their loud statements are a response to Russia's successful tests of the Burevestnik and Poseidon. There was about the same hysteria after the "Hazel Tree". They are losing the war they have unleashed. <...> They are also failing with anti-Russian sanctions. Therefore, one thing remains — to look for the perpetrators and justify their aggression," the Federation Council said.
Bondarev assured that Russia is ready to respond to any threats, emphasizing the instantaneous and consistent response to proven scenarios, referring to the Nuclear Doctrine of the Russian Federation.
On the same day, the press bureau of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) of the Russian Federation reported that Western countries were preparing to sabotage the Zaporizhia NPP and hold Russia responsible for these actions. The Chatham House Research and Production association in the UK, where the plan is being developed, has already determined the consequences of the accident. According to their calculations, residents of Kiev-controlled areas and citizens of the European Union (EU) countries near the Ukrainian western border will be in the area of the spread of radioactive particles.
Prior to that, on October 23, the Zaporizhia NPP resumed the supply of electricity to meet the station's own needs 30 days after the complete loss of external power supply. Previously, the power supply for the station's own needs was provided by backup diesel generators.
