Russians were warned about fraudulent schemes ahead of the sale
Scammers are actively creating phishing sites for Black Friday, which will be on November 11th. The head of the Roskachestvo Digital Expertise Center, Sergey Kuzmenko, warned about this on Thursday, November 6.
According to the expert, the main rule is to remain vigilant even with the most tempting offers. If the price seems too low, if the offer came from an unverified source and you are asked to provide personal information, then this is a reason to stop and carefully double-check everything.
Kuzmenko added that one of the most common fraud schemes during the sales period remains phone calls from scammers who pose as couriers of marketplaces.
"Criminals use various pretexts, from confirming the delivery address to clarifying the order details. In fact, these codes can be used to access popular services, instant messengers, or register in online microcredit services. Couriers of real retail chains and marketplaces do not request any codes over the phone," he stressed in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .
The expert also said that on the eve of Black Friday, scammers are actively creating phishing sites that pose as the official pages of popular brands, chain stores and marketplaces.
"By clicking on such a link and selecting a product, the buyer gets to a fake bank card payment page. As a result, fraudsters receive not only money for non—existent goods, but also full access to card details," he said.
In addition to fake websites, the expert called for careful attention to QR codes posted in public places. According to him, scammers often paste them on information stands in entrances or distribute them through flyers, promising exclusive promo codes and maximum discounts.
Pavel Lyulin, vice President of the Union of Shopping Centers, told the Moscow City News agency on November 5 that an explosive increase in attendance at Moscow shopping centers during the November discounts period is not expected in 2025.
In turn, Nikolai Berzon, a professor at the HSE Faculty of Economics, said that such an action as "Black Friday" is a marketing ploy.
He noted that as part of the campaign, stores reduce the margin on stale goods and you can really make a profitable purchase, but you should not get carried away with such purchases.
On October 28, the Department for combating the illegal use of information and communication technologies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation reported that fraudsters began actively deceiving people through fake online stores of major brands, using the theme of sales, including during the Black Friday period. According to the agency, citizens may encounter fake online stores that copy the design of official sites, offer discounts of up to 90% and require prepayment.
On October 15, Timofey Voronin, Deputy Director for Technology Transfer at the NTI Competence Center for Big Data Storage and Analysis at Moscow State University, told RT about popular fraud schemes for online purchases.
The specialist warned that the attackers began to offer Network users to purchase items from bygone brands at favorable prices. 360.ru .
