Elena Kancheli, a mother of many children and a member of the Public Chamber of the Moscow Region, spoke about a new household trend leading to the breakdown of relationships with loved ones.

In an interview with Radio 1 on Thursday, November 6, the expert said that the appearance of the "manyan" trend indicates problems in society and profound social changes. According to her, this is an attempt to replace the help of relatives, but without violating personal boundaries: babysitters often have to not only help a young mother, but also smooth out family conflicts.

Kancheli stressed that the habitual role of a grandmother — support and support for a young family — has been largely lost today: the older generation has become more socially active and engaged in their own lives, and a paid service has taken the vacant place.

The expert drew a historical parallel with noble families, where children were surrounded by tutors, but they lacked intimacy with their parents. According to her, the child gets attached to whoever is nearby anyway.

Thus, the interlocutor believes that the phenomenon of "manyan" is not just a fashion trend, but a reflection of the breakdown of intergenerational ties, the lack of live communication in the family and the desire of modern people to find a "magic pill" instead of building real, warm relationships with loved ones.

In October, Yulia Yevgrafova, head of the laboratory at the Institute for the Study of Childhood, Family and Upbringing, said that family studies in schools would change children's understanding of values. The main goal of the program is to deepen the content of the subject and build a value line of attitude towards family and marriage throughout the school years.
