- FT has learned about EHang's plans to launch an air taxi service from airports in the next three years
The Chinese company EHang plans to launch flying taxi services from major airports in the coming years. This was reported on November 6 by the Financial Times (FT) newspaper.
"China's leading flying taxi company plans to launch air transportation from major airports within three years at a cost of only $30. The race to introduce electric vehicles with vertical takeoff and landing is gaining momentum," the article says.
According to the company's CFO, Conor Yang, the trips will cost between 200 and 300 yuan ($28–$42), which is slightly more expensive than a premium class taxi ride.
In 2025, EHang became the first company in the world to receive permission from the aviation regulator for the commercial operation of unmanned electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft. The Civil Aviation Administration of China has also granted the company an initial permit for flights that start and end at the same point.
It is noted that EHang plans to conduct sightseeing flights in Guangzhou and Hefei, but Yang expects that they will soon be allowed to use the aircraft in a wider range of conditions.
In November last year, it became known that over the next five years, the Chinese concern Changan Automobile intends to invest more than 50 billion yuan in the creation of a flying car by 2026 and a humanoid robot by 2027. Changan noted that in 2023, the volume of the low-altitude economy, which includes small aircraft, in China exceeded 500 billion yuan, and by 2035 this amount will increase to 3.5 trillion yuan. This market covers unmanned aerial vehicles, urban air taxis, light helicopters and airplanes.
