Russia has appealed the decision of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) on the non-admission of Russian athletes to participate in competitions, the corresponding appeal was sent to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). This was announced on November 6 by Mikhail Degtyarev, Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation, head of the Russian Olympic Committee, at the Russia - Sports Power Forum.

"We consider the non-admission of Russian athletes to international competitions to be absolutely unacceptable and contrary to the spirit and principles of the Olympic Charter. We will continue consistently, through the courts, to seek the restoration of justice and equal conditions for the participation of Russian athletes in international competitions," TASS quoted him as saying.

According to Degtyarev, the Russian position was reinforced by the recent judicial precedent in luge and bobsleigh, which confirmed the discriminatory nature of suspensions against domestic athletes.

On October 21, FIS did not allow Russian athletes to participate in international competitions. The Russian Ski Racing Federation (FLGR) noted that this decision of the FIS is discriminatory and contrary to the principles of political neutrality.

Shortly after, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia was disappointed by the FIS ban on skiers participating in competitions. He also noted that Russia will continue "painstaking, patient work with the federation to defend the interests of our athletes."

Russian athletes have been banned by the FIS from performing on the world stage since March 2022.
