- Reuters has learned about US plans to deploy a military presence at an airbase in Damascus.
The United States intends to deploy a military contingent at an airbase in Damascus to ensure a future security pact between Syria and Israel. This was reported on November 6 by the Reuters news agency, citing sources familiar with the matter.
"Two Syrian military sources said that technical negotiations were focused on using the base for logistics, surveillance, refueling and humanitarian operations, while Syria would retain full sovereignty over the facility," the material says.
According to the newspaper, the base is located at the entrance to the southern regions of Syria, which are to become a demilitarized zone as part of the non-aggression pact between Israel and Syria. It is noted that this deal was concluded with the participation of the administration of the American leader Donald Trump.
On November 1, the Axios portal reported on the plans of the Syrian President for the transitional period, Ahmed al-Sharaa, to visit Washington on November 10 and meet with Trump. It was specified that this would be al-Sharaa's first visit to the White House.
