The level of digitalization in the transport sector is currently one of the highest in the Russian economy, and it will grow even more next year. This was announced on November 6 by the head of the Ministry of Transport of Russia Andrey Nikitin.

"The level of digitalization in the transport industry is one of the highest in the Russian economy today. And next year we will see truly revolutionary changes," he said in an interview with Expert magazine.

According to Nikitin, the key factor in the future transformation will be the creation of a National digital transport and Logistics platform, which in the future will ensure the mandatory use of electronic waybills through the Goslog system. This decision will take effect on September 1, 2026, which, in his opinion, will be the point of no return in the transition to the digital format of documents.

This step will significantly speed up the processes, reducing the time for domestic transportation from seven to three days, and for international transactions from 28 to three days. Also, thanks to the introduction of digital invoices, the border crossing time for trucks will be reduced to 10 minutes.

The head of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation clarified that special attention is being paid to the international direction. He recalled that in 2023, a pilot project on electronic waybills with Belarus was successfully implemented. In addition, in February 2026, tracking of shipments using navigation seals will begin throughout the Eurasian Economic Union.

"Later, it is planned to integrate Goslog systems with ERA-GLONASS systems, and we will gain full control over the logistics chain. When the data from ERA-GLONASS is combined with electronic transportation documents, the functionality will allow you to observe three types of transport in one window at once: automobile, marine and railway," Nikitin said.

He also spoke about the progress in the field of smart contracts, noting that there have already been successful tests of some technologies. For mass implementation, a change in legislation will be required, which is currently being worked on.

Earlier, on October 1, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Vitaly Saveliev said that the Russian transport complex occupies a leading position in the world in the introduction of advanced digital technologies. According to him, the Russian Ministry of Transport is actively developing digital solutions for logistics. In particular, starting in 2026, "GIS electronic transportation documents" will become mandatory in the country, which will greatly simplify interaction between transportation participants.
