On November 6, Andrey Nikitin, the head of the Russian Ministry of Transport, spoke in an interview with Expert magazine about the ministry's key areas of work related to the development of international transport corridors, which contribute to access to fast-growing markets and strengthen Russia's role as a logistics bridge between East and West.

"We prioritize the development of the most promising transport corridors that will allow us to enter new fast-growing markets for our exporters in Southeast Asia and Africa," he said.

According to Nikitin, one of the main areas of work of the Ministry of Transport is the creation of a new transport geography that helps ensure Russia's strategic position in the international logistics arena. As part of this, the Ministry is focusing on the development of several key transport corridors, taking into account new challenges and challenges.

One of the most important projects is the development of the North–South corridor, which connects Russia, Azerbaijan and Iran. The head of the Ministry of Transport clarified that it is planned to double cargo flows along this route — from 16 million tons in 2021 to 35 million tons in 2030. Nikitin noted that coordination with Azerbaijan has been established more effectively, in particular, the issue of building a key section of the railway is being resolved.

In addition, the development of the Europe–Western China corridor is an important area. Nikitin said that a roadmap for synchronizing work with Kazakhstan was signed back in 2023. Turkmenistan is also actively involved in this process.

"The most interesting story is the Transarctic corridor. Recently, the very first Chinese vessel passed through it to Europe. Our key task today is to form an emergency rescue fleet to ensure safety and remove risks from carriers," said the head of the Ministry of Transport.

Nikitin also noted that as part of the national project, it is planned to build and modernize 27 priority checkpoints across the Russian state border by 2030, which will speed up the transit of goods and improve the efficiency of border crossings. In particular, an experiment was successfully implemented in Dagestan at the Yarag-Kazmalyar border crossing, where a 10-minute checkpoint regime was introduced. This experiment, according to the head of the Ministry of Transport, has shown its effectiveness, and in the future it can be extended to other regions of the country.

On November 3, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin announced that economic cooperation between Russia and China is becoming stronger, despite the unstable atmosphere in the world. According to him, large-scale joint projects are being implemented between the states in the field of oil and gas production, production of high-tech equipment, energy, peaceful atom and space research. In addition, cooperation is developing in the aviation and automotive industries, as well as transport corridors, including routes through the Arctic.
