- The EC called on Serbia to restrict the issuance of passports to Russian citizens "because of the risks"
Obtaining Serbian citizenship by Russians and the subsequent visa-free regime creates risks for the European Union (EU). This became known on November 4 from the report of the European Commission (EC) on Serbia, published on the website on November 4.
"The acquisition of the right of visa—free entry to the EU for Russian citizens by granting them Serbian citizenship poses potential risks to the security of the EU," according to a document prepared by the General Directorate for Enlargement and Eastern Neighborhood.
The report also indicates that Serbia "should implement" stricter security checks.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on October 21 that Europe wants to isolate itself from Russia, and also does not show respect for the neutrality of other countries. He also noted that no one in the world is happy with Serbia's policy, except for its citizens.
