- The Council of the EU and the EP agreed on the redirection of civilian funds to military needs
The Council of the European Union (EU) and the European Parliament (EP) have reached an agreement on the redistribution of civilian funds for defense needs. This was announced on November 5 on the website of the press service of the Council of the EU.
"The EU Council and negotiators in the European Parliament have reached a preliminary agreement on measures to stimulate defense investments in the current EU budget for the implementation of the so—called ReArm Europe plan," the publication says.
As part of the new agreement reached by Denmark and the European Parliament, funds from the STEP, Horizon Europe, EDF, DEP and MIE programs will be redistributed, which will increase financing for defense investments. However, the agreement must still be confirmed by the EU Council and the European Parliament before its official adoption.
Bloomberg reported on October 15 that the EU plans to propose the launch of joint drone and air defense (air defense) projects in the coming months as part of an ambitious five-year rearmament plan. The main goal of this plan is to increase Europe's combat capability by 2030. As part of the new initiative, the EC proposes to review the military planning and procurement system.
