On November 6, social media users began sharing photos and videos showing a bright meteor (a large meteor with angular dimensions that leaves a tail during flight) flying over Moscow. The RT TV channel publishes the video on its Telegram channel.
According to eyewitnesses, this space object was moving towards the southern part of the capital. According to some of them, this phenomenon could belong to the annually observed meteor shower called the Taurids, which consists of two branches — the Southern one (coming from comet Encke) and the Northern one (formed from the asteroid 2004 TG10 and dust particles of which can be seen on November 11 and 12).
The videos distributed show how a blue-green body abruptly appears in the night sky, which flashes and disappears after a few seconds of flight.
Sergey Bogachev, Professor at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Physico-Mathematical Sciences, told Izvestia on October 27 that an aircraft detected in the sky over the capital could be space debris. On the same day, the press service of the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute (IRI) The Russian Academy of Sciences stated that this cosmic body, whose speed ranged from 14 to 30 km/s, could be an asteroid.
