TV presenter Yuri Nikolaev, who died on November 4, was the author of a new genre, and his programs were a "window" into the "not accessible foreign world" at the time of their release. Director Nikita Mikhalkov told Izvestia about this on November 5.

"With the passing of Yuri Nikolaev, with this very sad event, an entire era has passed, of course...> You start analyzing: what's gone, what's lost? It was really a new word for television. It really was a completely new format of communication with the audience," he shared his feelings.

According to him, the TV presenter was able to broadcast charm through the screen, and his programs, in particular "Morning Mail" and "Morning Star" enjoyed "gigantic" success, which was also due to the opportunity provided to viewers to hear rare foreign music.

"It was a kind of window into a world that was not available in this world. Yura found a wonderful intonation that captivated people completely: lightness, charm. <...> He, I can honestly say, was the author of a new genre," Mikhalkov added.

Nikolayev, as emphasized by the director, who had been friends with him for 40 years, was endearing with his truth, courage, and unusual passion. The departure of the presenter was, as he added, a great sadness for everyone who was with him, while feeling confidence and joy. Mikhalkov offered condolences to all those who knew and remembered Nikolayev.

The death of the TV presenter at the age of 77 became known on Tuesday, November 4. Poet Shaganov noted that Nikolaev was the most beloved TV presenter and the kindest person from whom the light emanated. Singer Valeria added that the presenter left a mark in the hearts of Russians.

On November 5, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to the family and friends of Yuri Nikolaev. He noted the significant contribution of the deceased to the preservation and development of the best traditions of Russian television. The President stressed that the memory of the TV presenter will remain in the hearts of relatives, friends, colleagues and all admirers of his talent.

Nikolayev will be buried on Saturday, November 8, at the Troekurovsky cemetery. The farewell ceremony will begin at 13:00 Moscow time.
