A criminal case has been opened in Tula on the illegal sale of particularly large quantities of electronic nicotine delivery systems and nicotine-containing liquids. The person involved in it is a 27-year-old local resident, according to the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

According to investigators, Tulyak organized the storage of products in two wholesale warehouses in Tula, from where they were then supplied to retail chains throughout the region. The total value of vapes and liquids withdrawn from circulation has previously exceeded 500 million rubles.

According to the materials of the Federal Security Service of Russia in the Tula region, a criminal case has been opened under Part 6 of p. 171.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Production, acquisition, storage, transportation for the purpose of marketing or sale of nicotine-containing products on an especially large scale," TSN24 writes. The maximum sanction of this article provides for up to six years in prison.

The owner of the illegal business has already been detained and taken into custody. His property in the form of five apartments, four cars and one land plot was seized. The investigation of the criminal case is ongoing.

In October, the State Duma adopted in the first reading a bill banning the sale of tobacco and nicotine-containing products at public transport stops, an initiative aimed at reducing the availability of such products to young people and reducing the risk of secondhand smoke. At the same time, parliamentarians and regulators continue to work on measures to completely ban the sale of vapes and tighten responsibility for their turnover.
