The Kremlin reported that there were no plans for talks between Putin and Trump.
Telephone conversations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart Donald Trump are not expected in the near future. This was announced on November 5 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov to Izvestia.
"No, not yet. But if necessary, if both sides consider it appropriate, it is possible to organize [negotiations] very quickly," he said.
According to the Kremlin's official representative, the Russian side remains committed to the obligations of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT). At the same time, Putin's position on this initiative is "absolutely clear and does not tolerate double interpretation," Peskov added.
He also expressed the hope that statements about nuclear tests would not affect Russian-American relations.
Earlier in the day, the Russian leader instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defense, special services and civilian agencies to make proposals on the possible start of work on preparations for nuclear weapons tests. He also clarified that the situation related to the statements of the US president about the country's nuclear tests is a serious issue.
