Russian weightlifter Myand won three gold medals at the European Championships
Russian weightlifter Georgy Myand won three gold medals at the European Junior and Youth Weightlifting Championships in Albania. On November 5, the Russian national team returned to Moscow from the competition, the footage of their meeting at Vnukovo airport is published by Izvestia.
Myand lifted 173 kg in the snatch and 213 kg in the clean and jerk. The total for the two-man event was 386 kg. Each of these results allowed the athlete to update the European junior records in the corresponding exercises.
"The competition was perfect, everything was at the highest level. <...> Three gold medals, three European records. <...> We tried, we worked, we knew where we were going. Without excitement, they showed everything they could on the platform, it turned out to be enough," the athlete said.
He also added that he did not look at the results of his rivals, but "did what he had to do."
Russian weightlifters also won a silver medal from Elizaveta Zhatkina and three bronze medals from Sarmat Tebloev, Polina Pavlovich and Maria Gruzdova.
On October 27, Russian gymnasts Angelina Melnikova and Daniel Marinova, who returned from the World Championships in Jakarta, were welcomed at Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow. The athletes were greeted with ovations and applause. Young athletes with posters are visible among the greeters.: "You are the best! Congratulations!". There were also musicians waiting for the gymnasts.
