In an interview with Radio 1 on Wednesday, November 5, the specialist noted that the problem lies in the very design of the gadgets. She warned that the inner ear is very vulnerable, and any viral infection or stress can lead to hearing loss. According to her, in—ear headphones are especially harmful, since the ear canal is not designed for such exposure - it is safer when the sound source is further away.

Elizarova added that the constant use of earplugs can cause infections, fungal otitis media and injuries, since the ear canal is designed for self-cleaning, and interference disrupts this process.

The specialist recommended giving preference to overhead or full-size headphones, as well as lowering the volume, taking breaks and choosing less traumatic headsets.
