The psychologist named ways to motivate the child to study after the holidays
Holidays are a time of relaxation, joy and freedom from school worries. But returning to school can be a real challenge for a child, especially if the motivation to study was not up to par anyway. On November 5, Svetlana Migunova, a child psychologist and consultant psychologist at Give Cretive, a manufacturer of children's educational kits, told Izvestia how to help a child adapt to school life.
"You shouldn't put pressure on a child from the first day, reminding them about missed lessons and homework. Start with a positive attitude and discuss plans for the school year. Ask them what subjects they are interested in, what goals they would like to achieve, and what new skills they would like to learn. Joint planning will allow the child to feel involved in the process and take responsibility for their actions," the expert noted.
The psychologist also recommended creating a comfortable and stimulating learning environment: a comfortable and well-lit workplace where you can study in peace without being distracted by extraneous noises and irritants.
"Decorate the room with bright posters, motivational quotes or photos of your favorite characters. Let the child choose the stationery he likes: beautiful pens, bright notebooks and interesting bookmarks," she added.
Migunova also advised to maintain interest in learning through games and entertainment. For example, you can visit museums, exhibitions, scientific centers with a student, watch educational films and programs. In addition, you can play educational games and read books together on topics of interest to the child.
She also urged parents to praise their children for their efforts and progress, not just for the result, and not to compare their child with other children.
Also, according to the psychologist, it is important to create a balance between study and rest.
"Plan your daily schedule so that your child has enough time to study, but still have time for entertainment and relaxation. Encourage him to engage in sports, creativity and other activities that bring him pleasure," said Svetlana Migunova.
On September 18, Anna Avdeeva, a medical psychologist at the L.M. Roshal Children's Clinical Center, gave advice on protecting a child from burnout at school. According to her, the main way to prevent this condition may be the correct sleep regime, in which younger schoolchildren need to sleep 10-11 hours, middle school children — 9-10, high school students — eight or nine.
