In Germany, parking lots or railway stations can be used as bunkers instead of building large bomb shelters. This opinion was expressed on November 5 by Michael Giss, commander of the Bundeswehr territorial defense forces in Baden-Wuerttemberg, in an interview with the Badische Zeitung newspaper.
"It is possible, at the expense of moderate funds, to strengthen the existing infrastructure accordingly and use it for dual purposes — for example, parking lots or city train stations," he said.
At the same time, the military cited the example of a similar experience in protecting civilian infrastructure in Ukraine and suggested adopting it in Germany.
On October 3, the Lithuanian authorities called on the country's citizens to prepare bomb shelters in case of a possible armed conflict. According to the Daily Mail, basements of many buildings in Vilnius, the capital of the country, have been turned into shelters.
