- Bloomberg has learned about the difficulties of medical device manufacturers due to US duties
European medical device companies are facing the consequences of US President Donald Trump's trade policy and expect the negative impact of US duties to continue to grow. This was reported on November 5 by Bloomberg.
As an example, the publication cites the German company Siemens Healthineers AG, which manufactures diagnostic equipment, MRI and CT scanners in Germany and China and supplies them to other countries, including the United States. Washington provided 38% of the company's total sales in fiscal year 2025. According to the company's chief financial officer, Jochen Schmitz, customs duties during this period amounted to about 200 million euros ($230 million).
The German company's shares fell to a record 13% today after it warned of the risks of increasing tariffs to €400 million ($460 million) in fiscal year 2026. The Danish companies Ambu A/S and Royal Philips NV faced similar problems.
Despite the trade agreement between the European Union (EU) and the United States, concluded in August 2025, uncertainty in trade relations remains, the newspaper writes.
Kristalina Georgieva, head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), said on October 8 that the openness of the global economy had suffered greatly due to US import duties, but there had not yet been a slide into a global trade war. According to her forecasts, global public debt will exceed the volume of the entire global economy in 2029.
