Former Romanian national football team coach Emerick Yeney has died at the age of 89.

Former coach of the Romanian national football team and Steaua football club Emerick Yeney has died at the age of 88. This was announced on November 5 on the website of the Bihor football club.

"Romanian and Bihor football are in mourning. The great Emerick Yeney, a true legend of this sport, left us at the age of 88," the publication says.

Eney made his debut for Flamura Rosi Arad in the Romanian League I. At the age of 20, he signed a contract with Steaua Bucharest, where he became Romanian champion three times, then played for Kayseri Erciyesspor in Turkey. During his career, he played 12 matches for the Romanian national team.

As a coach, Eney headed the clubs Steaua, Targovishte, Universitatyu, Panionios. In 1978-1979, he coached Bihor. Enea's name entered the history of Romanian football after winning the European Champions Cup with Steaua in 1986.
