Over the past weekend and holidays, 712 road accidents were recorded on Russian roads, in which 90 people were killed and 867 injured. 63 of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on November 5 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

So, in the Irkutsk region, on 1,581 km of the federal highway R-255 Siberia (Novosibirsk — Kemerovo — Krasnoyarsk — Irkutsk), a 48-year-old truck driver from China skidded during a snowfall during braking and then drove into the oncoming lane, where he collided with two other trucks. After that, the fourth truck, traveling in the same direction with these vehicles stopped in front of it after an accident, ran over one of them. The driver and passenger of the truck that the fourth car crashed into, as well as the passenger of the truck responsible for the accident, were killed in the accident. The drivers of the first and fourth trucks ended up in hospital with injuries. In addition, due to the accident, traffic was temporarily blocked for several hours on the section of the federal highway where it occurred.

32 bus accidents were recorded, in which two people were killed, and 37 more road users, including four children, needed medical attention. 12 bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers.

As a result of 192 accidents involving pedestrians, 27 people were killed, and 175 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 20 young pedestrians under the age of 16, 12 of whom were injured when crossing the roadway in unintended places. Of the total number of pedestrian incidents, 80 occurred at pedestrian crossings and 112 outside their area of operation.

Over the past three days, 72 accidents involving minors have been registered, in which 81 young road users were injured, including 53 passengers and five motor transport drivers. Three children were killed: one passenger of a passenger vehicle and two pedestrians.

So, in the Rostov region, in the evening, on 38 km of the Shakhty— Razdorskaya regional highway, a 58-year-old female driver, exceeding the speed limit, lost control and drove her right wheels to the side of the road, which led to a car skidding into the oncoming lane, where she collided with a truck. Both the female driver of the car and her nine-year-old grandson, who was in the front passenger seat with his seat belt fastened, were killed in the accident.

In one of the villages of the Republic of Khakassia, in a parking lot near a store, a 49-year-old driver of a Gazelle truck, while reversing, ran over a four-year-old pedestrian girl who, accompanied by an 11-year-old cousin, was in the immediate vicinity of the vehicle. The youngest girl died. The cause of the incident was the carelessness of the driver of the cargo van, who began to reverse, not being convinced of the safety of the maneuver for young pedestrians — he did not notice them on the road.

In Ryazan, in the afternoon, a 35-year-old drunk driver drove off the road and onto a sidewalk separated from the roadway, where he knocked down an 11-year-old schoolboy who was walking unaccompanied from home to a shopping mall. The boy died.

The State Traffic Inspectorate urged road users not to remain indifferent to the problem of drunkenness at the wheel and promptly inform the police about drivers who behave inappropriately on the road, driving drunk. Traffic police officers are ready to take all necessary operational measures to respond to such reports. Motorists were advised to strictly observe traffic regulations and driving discipline.

Truck drivers should correctly assess its dimensions and speed, weather conditions, condition and width of the roadway, terrain and risk of skidding. In conditions of changing seasons, frequent rains and incipient snowfalls, it is necessary to reduce speed in advance and increase the distance to the transport in front, avoid frequent changes of lanes, sudden maneuvers and overtaking, strictly comply with traffic regulations related to the start of traffic, lane changes, turns, U-turns and stops. The lives and health of passengers and other road users also depend on compliance with all these basic measures of motor vehicle safety and the level of personal driving discipline, the department noted.

"We remind parents of underage road users of the need to be more attentive to children, trying to ensure maximum safety for them. The lack or negligence of parental control over the behavior and leisure of school-age children often leads to injuries or deaths of young road users. Be sure to use retroreflective elements on children's clothes to improve the visibility of young pedestrians to drivers during bad weather, precipitation, fog or at night," said Police Colonel Anton Belan, Deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

On November 1, it was reported that following the results of the first nine months of 2025, a decrease in road traffic accidents was recorded in the Russian Federation. The number of road accidents decreased by 2.4% (94.9 thousand cases), the number of dead — by 3.4% (10.1 thousand people), injured — by 3% (117.7 thousand people).
