Renault Group's global sales for the first nine months of 2025 amounted to 1.7 million units, which is 3.8% more year-on-year. During the same time, only 13 cars were registered in Russia, although 268 cars were registered a year earlier. Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, told about this on November 5 in his Telegram channel.

So, from January to September, only 10 new Renault passenger cars and 3 copies of Dacia were registered in the Russian Federation. Last year, 268 units were registered. Renault's sales in 2023 were 4,769 units, and in 2022, when the company left the Russian market, it was 40.8 thousand units.

The best years for Renault in Russia were 2013-2014, when 202 thousand and 198 thousand new passenger cars were sold, respectively. For the entire time of its presence, Renault's sales in Russia amounted to 2.17 million units. In terms of total sales, the brand ranks third in the ranking of foreign cars after Kia (2.63 million) and Hyundai (2.62 million), said Tselikov.

Currently, Renault Group's main sales are in France (393 thousand units in nine months), Italy (144 thousand units), Spain (128 thousand units), Turkey (110 thousand units) and Germany (108 thousand units).

In the spring of 2022, Renault transferred 67.69% of AvtoVAZ shares to state ownership and 100% of the Renault Russia plant to the Moscow government. The deal provided for an option for Renault to buy back its stake in AvtoVAZ for six years.

In February, Luca DeMeo, who was Renault's CEO at the time, said the company did not rule out a return to Russia. He said that buying out a controlling stake in AvtoVAZ is not a priority, but the brand's management is open to discussing business opportunities. Renault's prospects for returning to the Russian market are hardly good, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin later shared.

On August 20, it was reported that, as stated by Sergey Chemezov, CEO of Rostec State Corporation, there are no political prerequisites for Renault's possible return to AvtoVAZ's capital, they are not visible "even on the farthest horizon."
