- Reuters has learned about the US plan to lift UN sanctions against the Syrian president
The United States has submitted to the UN Security Council a draft resolution providing for the lifting of sanctions against Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa for the transitional period. This was reported on November 5 by the Reuters news agency.
"The draft resolution <... It also removes sanctions from Syrian Interior Minister Anas Khattab. <...> A resolution requires at least nine votes in favor and should not be vetoed by Russia, China, the United States, France or the United Kingdom," the publication says.
It is noted that in recent months, Washington has actively promoted the idea of easing sanctions against Damascus.
Earlier, on November 1, the Axios portal announced al-Sharaa's plans to visit Washington on November 10 and meet with American leader Donald Trump. It is specified that this will be al-Sharaa's first visit to the White House.
