The German Ministry of the Interior has sent emails to some Afghan refugees awaiting a visa in Pakistan offering to refuse resettlement in exchange for money. This was reported on November 4 by the international television news service Tagesschau.

"The offer in the emails sounds like this: money for voluntary refusal of further admission procedure. The amounts offered depend on the size of the family. <...> In the case of a family with four children, €2,750 is offered in Pakistan, and just under €11,500 in Afghanistan," the article says.

According to preliminary information, these messages were sent to 700 people out of 2.1 thousand people who want to emigrate to Germany. All of them are awaiting their departure to Pakistan, which in turn may deport them back after the deadline.

Lawyers defending the refugees, many of whom have been waiting for visas for several years, have pointed to an increase in "panic questions" from people who are faced with a choice.

On November 3, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced the possible deportation of Syrian refugees from the country, as the civil war in their homeland has already ended. He added that Germany will help those who wish to return both in the transportation itself and in the restoration of the destroyed infrastructure of Syria.
