Szijjarto stated Hungary's unwillingness to see Ukraine in the European Union
Hungary, expressing the will of its people, will not allow Ukraine to join the European Union (EU). This was announced on November 4 by the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic, Peter Szijjarto.
"Since the issue of EU enlargement requires unanimity among all member states, and Hungary and the Hungarian people have made it clear that they do not support Ukraine's membership in the European Union, Ukraine will not be a member of the European Union," he said in a statement made during the discussion of the new report of the European Commission (EC) on the intention to launch discussions on Ukraine's admission to the EU by the end of this year, which is cited by TASS.
The Financial Times (FT) newspaper reported on September 31 that the alliance intended to begin technical work to advance the process of Ukraine and Moldova joining the EU, without taking into account Budapest's position. Later, on November 4, the EC reported on the expectations of the start of negotiations on Ukraine's membership in the EU before the end of the year.
