American citizens will begin receiving food stamps under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) only after the shutdown is completed. This was announced on November 4 by the American leader Donald Trump.

"[Coupons] will be provided only when the radical left Democrats open the government," he said in a message on Truth Social.

He also added that during the government of former US President Joe Biden, coupons were given to "everyone, not just those in need."

Earlier, on November 1, the Financial Times (FT) newspaper reported that over 40 million low-income Americans are suffering from delays in government food aid due to the suspension of the US government more than a month ago. According to the publication, the Ministry of Agriculture, which manages the program, said it would suspend payment of benefits from November until Congress approves a new spending agreement.

Prior to that, on October 27, it was reported that United States citizens would stop receiving food stamps under the supplemental nutrition Assistance program from November 1 due to the shutdown. It was noted that the Senate Democrats voted 12 times to stop funding this project.
