The media reported on the unwillingness of EU leaders to anger Trump by coming to the summit in Colombia

Some leaders of the European Union (EU), including the head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, do not intend to attend the summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) because they do not want to anger the American leader Donald Trump. This was reported on November 4 by Bloomberg, citing sources.

It is specified that the German Chancellor will miss the summit due to the low activity of the heads of other states, and the head of the European Commission will not attend the event "in light of the current European political agenda and the low participation of other heads of state and government."

European leaders, including German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, will skip the EU summit with Latin American and Caribbean states, partly for fear of angering US President Donald Trump.

The agency added that the CELAC summit is scheduled for November 9th and 10th. It will be held in the Colombian city of Santa Marta.

Later on October 24, Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth announced that the United States had carried out an airstrike on a ship allegedly belonging to drug traffickers in the Caribbean Sea, which washes Colombia in the north. According to him, there were six male drug terrorists on board the ship during the attack - all of them were killed. At the same time, earlier, on October 18, the President of Colombia announced that one of these strikes had hit a civilian boat.
