A rare vampire orchid, Dracula chimaera, has bloomed in the botanical garden of Moscow State University "Aptekarsky Ogorod". This was announced on Tuesday, November 4, by the press service of the garden.

It is specified that a unique plant can be seen in a Palm greenhouse in a showcase with valuable orchids, and its flowering will last only a few days. The name of the flower comes from the Latin Dracula — "dragon" and chimaera — a mythical monster from ancient Greek legends.

The plant is native to Colombia and Ecuador, where it grows in mountain forests. The flowers reach up to 22.5 cm wide and range in color from red-brown to pale yellow. 360.ru .

Aptekarsky Ogorod has the largest collection of rare draculas in Russia, as well as more than a thousand species of orchids from different climatic regions. The collection is constantly being updated and used for scientific and educational purposes, the Moscow City News Agency reports.

In January, the vampire orchid Dracula, popularly known as the "monkey orchid," bloomed in the Apothecary's Garden. There are 118 species in the Dracula genus, native to Mexico, Central America, Colombia, Peru, and Ecuador. Some species are distinguished by a blood-red hue, hence the dramatic name, according to NSN.
