On National Unity Day, November 4, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova noted the role of diplomats in upholding the country's interests in the international arena.

"Just as Minin and Pozharsky, the whole nation, under banners and images, pushed the enemy away from the heart of our Motherland, so our diplomats today defend the interests of the country in the international arena," she wrote on her Telegram channel.

Zakharova noted that Russian diplomatic missions regularly hold receptions, commemorative events, concerts and cultural evenings attended by compatriots.

Earlier in the day, Russian President Vladimir Putin laid flowers at the monument to Kuzma Minin and Dmitry Pozharsky on Red Square in Moscow, and also talked with young activists, representatives of volunteer movements and children of heroes of the special military operation (SVO).

On the same day, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin congratulated the residents of the capital and called the centuries-old traditions of national unity the solid foundation of modern Russia. According to him, National Unity Day "affirms the values of patriotism and selfless service to the Motherland." In addition, this holiday was celebrated in a number of Russian cities, in particular in Vladivostok and Krasnoyarsk.
