Kallas announced the possible accession of new countries to the EU by 2030
New countries may join the European Union (EU) by 2030, including Albania, Moldova, Ukraine and Montenegro. This was announced on November 4 by the head of European diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, at a briefing in Brussels.
"We consider it a realistic goal for new countries to join the EU by 2030," Kallas said.
According to her, Ukraine's membership in the association should become an important guarantee of security for the country.
The Financial Times newspaper reported on September 31 that the EU is preparing to begin technical work to advance the accession process of Ukraine and Moldova, despite Hungary's position. The head of the chancellery, Hungarian Prime Minister Gergei Guyash, said on September 25 that Kiev's behavior did not correspond to the status of a candidate for EU membership. He said that Ukraine is unworthy to be a member of the EU, as it endangers the energy security of the community's states by undermining the Nord Stream gas pipeline.
Later, on November 4, the FT reported that the EU may appoint a "probation period" for new members so that at some point they do not turn out to be a country that acts contrary to the general policy of unification.
