The farewell to the former editor-in-chief of Izvestia, Ivan Dmitrievich Laptev, who passed away last Saturday, will take place on November 5 at 11:00 Moscow time at the Troekurovsky cemetery in the Large Funeral Hall of Ryabinovaya St., 24, p. 2.
Ivan Laptev became the head of Izvestia in 1984 and led the publication during the perestroika years, playing an important role in defending reforms, the principles of glasnost and freedom of speech. Under his leadership, circulation increased, the first color newspaper "We" appeared, a financial weekly was developed in partnership with the Financial Times (FT), and the first media advertising service was launched.
After his resignation, he headed the Council of the Union in the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, where, at a crucial moment for the country, he did not support the coup of the Emergency Committee. After the dissolution of the council, Laptev became the general director of the Izvestia business association, and from 1995 to 1999 he headed the Press Committee of the Russian Federation.
