In Moldova, prosecution witnesses in court could not confirm Hutsul's guilt.
The prosecution witnesses in the case of the head of Gagauzia, Yevgenia Hutsul, did not confirm her guilt during the court session. This was announced on November 3 by her lawyer Sergiu Moraru.
He clarified that on Monday, the hearing of the defense's testimony in court was almost completed.
"At the next hearing, as the court has made clear, we will compile a list of documents and evidence that have not been reviewed. And the defense side will have to present documents and evidence of the innocence of Evgenia Gutsul and Svetlana Popan, an activist of the Victory bloc," the Telegram channel "First in Moldova" quotes Bashkan's lawyer.
Moraru added that most of the witnesses had never personally known either Hutsul or Popan. At the trial, they indicated that they knew them only superficially, and many of them were from the public space.
The lawyer of the WJ Avocats bureau, a member of the Hutsul defense team, Camille Gosson, told Izvestia on October 29 that Bashkan's lawyers filed an appeal to the United Nations (UN) because of the violation of the rights of lawyer Sergei Moraru, who is being persecuted only for representing her interests in Moldova. An appeal to the UN Human Rights Committee is also being prepared.
Hutsul, accused of allegedly financing the Shor party, was sentenced to seven years in prison on August 5. This case, which caused a wide worldwide response, attracted international lawyers William Julie and Gonzalo Boye to its decision, who, among others, defended the defendant.
On September 17, Julie pointed out the political nature of the trial against the Hutsuls. According to him, she had practically no real opportunity to defend herself, as Moldovan lawyers received only two weeks to study the case in more than 60 volumes, consisting of approximately 16 thousand pages.
