The number of victims after the earthquake in Afghanistan has increased to 850

The death toll from the earthquake in northern Afghanistan has increased to 27 people, the number of victims is already approaching 900. This was reported on November 3 by the Afghan news portal Tolo news with reference to the World Health Organization (WHO).

"The strong earthquake that occurred last night in the north of the country claimed the lives of at least 27 people and left more than 850 injured," Hanan Balkhi, director of the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean, was quoted as saying in the publication's Telegram channel.

The organization has sent teams of its intensive care physicians and trauma surgeons to the disaster areas. Against the background of the continuation of rescue operations and the recovery of victims from the rubble, there is a possibility of an increase in the number of victims. WHO has warned that the situation in some earthquake—affected areas is critical.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed his condolences to Afghanistan in connection with the tragedy.

"I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life in northern Afghanistan after the devastating earthquake near Mazar-I-Sharif. <...> Pakistan expresses solidarity with our Afghan brothers and sisters in this difficult hour," he said on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

On the same day, the Seismological monitoring Center of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Uzbekistan recorded a powerful earthquake in the center of Afghanistan with a magnitude of 6.8. The force of the tremors was felt on the territory of the republic. At least 20 people were killed — residents of the northern city of Mazar-I-Sharif. The blue Mosque located there received partial damage.
