Oreshkin stated that Russia has no interest in the EU ban on energy imports.
Russia does not pay attention to the actions of European countries that are adopting new sanctions on imports of Russian energy resources, in particular gas. She is much more interested in the situation on the market itself, Maxim Oreshkin, Deputy head of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation, said on November 3 during ADIPEC.
"What Europe is doing is a problem for Europe itself, because we know the consequences of all the decisions it has made in previous years. <...> For our part, we are not actually looking at Europe's decisions. We are looking at where the markets are developing," he said.
Oreshkin also stressed that if we evaluate global growth, the main actions are now focused on East Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America. These regions are now the driving force behind the growth of the global economy and will represent a large part of it in the future, concluded the deputy head of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation.
On October 20, the EU Council approved the proposal of the European Commission (EC) to ban gas purchases in Russia from January 1, 2028. In addition, the EU has also decided to impose a ban on the transit of Russian gas through the union to other countries. This measure will take effect on January 1, 2026.
On October 29, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi refused to ban the import of Russian energy resources to US President Donald Trump. She explained to the policy the importance of continuing energy purchases for the country. On October 22, the U.S. Treasury Department imposed sanctions on Russian oil companies Rosneft and Lukoil for their activities in the Russian energy sector.
The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, at the same time indicated that Moscow considers the new US restrictive measures against Russian oil companies to be counterproductive. At the same time, she stressed that the new sanctions would not create significant problems for Russia.
