Fraudsters in Russia began to use a double agent scheme
Fraudsters began to use more sophisticated ways to deceive Russians, including phone number substitution and a "double agent" scheme, Alexey Korobchenko, head of the information security department at the Security Code company, said on November 3.
"Due to the fact that the state and various official organizations are implementing a whole range of technical and preventive measures, Russians have become more likely to recognize fraudulent schemes, so attackers resort to more sophisticated methods of attacks," the RIA Novosti expert noted.
He added that the "double agent" scheme is especially popular in the corporate environment, when a fraudster hacks into an account, creates a new supposedly familiar profile and uses it to deceive, for example, by substituting payment details.
Phishing sites disguised as government resources, marketplaces, or banks remain one of the most common tactics. To protect himself, Korobchenko advises setting a password for the SIM card, prohibiting its reissue through Gosuslugi and rechecking information about contacts in messengers.
Earlier it was reported that fraudsters lure Russians out of personal data under the guise of calls from an "accountant" to receive payments, and then allegedly connect "security specialists" and require an authorization code from SMS or a one-time password to access accounts. The incidents were recorded on November 2 at the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for combating crimes in the field of ICT.
