- The media learned about the intention of the Nigerian president to hold a meeting with Trump
Nigerian President Bola Tinubu intends to hold a meeting with American leader Donald Trump in the coming days to discuss the situation with the country's Christian population. This was reported on November 2 by the local newspaper Vanguard.
According to Daniel Bwala, an adviser on political communications, negotiations can take place either in Abuja (the capital of Nigeria) or in Washington.
"Both Bola Tinubu and Donald Trump share an interest in fighting insurgencies and all forms of terrorism against humanity," he said.
It is noted that the meeting is intended to demonstrate Abuja's readiness for an open dialogue with the United States on charges of alleged genocide of Christians. Bvala stressed that Tinubu's government had "made tangible progress" in the fight against terrorism, and recalled that Trump had previously approved the supply of weapons to the Nigerian army.
"President Trump has been a great help to Nigeria by allowing the sale of weapons to Nigeria, and President Tinubu has adequately used this opportunity in the fight against terrorism, in which we can demonstrate tremendous results," the adviser said.
The day before, Trump warned that if Nigeria did not stop killing Christians, the United States could suspend all aid and cooperation with that country. He also instructed the Pentagon to prepare possible military measures.
Later, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced that the US military was preparing for possible actions against Nigeria. He also stressed that the US army is ready to intervene if the Nigerian authorities do not take measures to protect citizens.
