Cardiologist Andrey Kondrakhin told how to calculate your ideal weight, in which cases you cannot lose weight without a surgeon, and how to lose weight on your own.

In conversation with aif.ru On Saturday, November 1, the doctor noted that the ideal weight is calculated by body mass index (BMI), an indicator that is determined by the formula weight (kg) / height 2 (in meters). A BMI of about 25 is considered the norm, values below 20 indicate a lack of weight, above 29 — overweight, but not yet obese.

Kondrakhin noted that with a slight excess of the norm, it is enough to adjust the diet, reduce the amount of fast carbohydrates and increase physical activity. However, with first—degree obesity, a more detailed examination is required - an assessment of metabolism, glucose and insulin levels.

According to him, the second degree of obesity requires medication, and with the third, surgery is often necessary, since a person can no longer control appetite and behavior.

Kondrakhin stressed that being overweight is an additional burden on the body: at a weight of 90-100 kg, a person actually "carries another person on himself." This condition worsens the functioning of the heart, endocrine and respiratory systems, as well as joints. The doctor advises that at the first signs of weight gain, immediately pay attention to nutrition and move more.
