Former chief sanitary officer of the Russian Federation, epidemiologist Gennady Onishchenko told how to protect yourself from influenza and SARS in the fall.
In conversation with aif.ru On Saturday, November 1, he stressed that vaccination and wearing masks in public places would help protect against the flu during the cold season. The specialist noted that a period of increasing incidence of acute respiratory infections and influenza is beginning in the country, so it is important to get vaccinated. According to him, at the moment only 47 million people have been vaccinated, which is extremely insufficient. He also recalled the need to wear protective masks in public places.
Onishchenko added that masks do not provide absolute protection against infection, but significantly reduce the risks.
Experts also reminded about other measures to prevent the flu: to observe hygiene (wash hands regularly, do not touch the face), strengthen the immune system through proper sleep and nutrition, maintain physical activity and spend more time outdoors. At the same time, it is recommended to avoid crowded places, especially during the period of increasing morbidity, and to reduce the use of public transport if possible.
